Macro mania

This past month I took a class on macro photography. I really pushed myself to learn as much as I could. I have truly come to love shooting macro! I love having total creative control and trying to come up with something beautiful and unique. I learned some techniques that will be invaluable to me in the future. I am so grateful I was able to take the class. I now have some images I can use to add to my porfolio…yay!

This week I was craving color and Spring so I went down to a tropical plant store and bought an exotic orchid and some pretty pink daisies to photograph. My favorite one ended up being the one of the orchid shot straight on. I used a technique called focus stacking where you take a series of 10 or so images with different focus points, then they are merged into one in Photoshop. I was able to capture the entire depth of the orchid that way.

One of my favorite challenges from the class to capture a reflection in a water droplet. See if you can see the tiny reflection of the daisy I captured in the droplets (3rd and 6th shot down). So cool! I need to practice this more. One classmate was able to get her son’s reflection in one of hers! My creative needs were definitely fulfilled this week…
