A photographer about my age named Jen Thompson passed away last week from ovarian cancer. She had two beautiful boys. One the same age as my 6 year old son. I didn’t know her personally, but I admire her courage and strength as did many others in the photography world. She blogged her journey with cancer from the day she was diagnosed. She had this incredible video made of her and her boys when she was first diagnosed. I sat and bawled reading her blog Am I Still a Girl last week. She passed away only a little over a year from when she was diagnosed! I guess what struck me the hardest when reading her story is you never know what life trials you will be given. One day can be normal and the next turned upside down. I’m not sure I could say good-bye to the world in one short year. So much to do, so little time. So today I see things differently. It’s stories like Jen’s that make me want to squeeze my babies a little tighter and live each day with more purpose.
In honor of Jen, me and the other contributors from Click It Up A Notch took photos of us with our kids. I bribed my kids to let me take yet another photo of them and we had a neighbor snap it for us. It was getting dark and starting to rain, so the lighting is flat, but it is what it is. Me and kids. Mission accomplished!
I don’t get in many photos. I am happiest behind the camera. But seeing this photo made me want to do this more. I am so blessed to be a mother of these sweet chicklets. I love them with every fiber of my being. They bring me joy. and hope. and teach me so much about myself. I am better because I am their mother.
